Just like to point out that under Solaris 2.x /opt is used to hold
optional programs such as compilers etc.

I initally found this strange but it does grow on you. Third party
software developers are now strating to incorporate /opt into their
installation scripts so it may be useful to consider.

I do not no how Sun specific this setup is.
