Well, I have done a port of RCS 5.6 (actually the patches I had made
were going into the same directions as 5.6.0.1, as they are necessary
to run with ``newer'' versions of diff) and it works fine with me.
However I think I did it for MiNT 1.10 (with unpatched MiNT libs PL44)
so the effective uid stuff may be wrong.

I remember having some problems with the test script as well, but if I
recollect it right, they were due to a shell bug (some here-document
was to long for the bash port I was using). Anyway, I can send you the
patch tomorrow (have my Atari stuff only at home :-(
