If you get the term package (term224.tgz from atari.archive I think)
you can use the linecheck program from there to test the 8-bit
cleanness of your line. The line might be 8-bit clean despite the
XON/XOFF operation (ctl-s/ctl-q), because the slip program you run on
the remote host probably turns off XON/XOFF before it starts treating
your terminal connection as a SLIP connection.
