Cross-compilation

I have access to two linux-boxes which have sufficient space and memory
for me to put GNU on as a cross-compiler. Both already have GNU installed
for their own use, of course.

Since I'm not at my creative best, what do I need to set up GNU in my
account on one of these boxes to compile tools for use with MiNTnet?
(cnuews, smail, and so forth.) I don't want 68030 binaries, for a start.
