Re: Updating MiNT and XaAES (foundations of free, modern Atari system operation)

Sven,

Being that you have taken the initiative to upgrade MiNTOS/MultiTOS to
Fenix, perhaps it would be best if you maintained the sources for MiNT
and XaAES. There is not a listing showing the latest version numbers of
MiNTOS executibles. I figure that since it requires quite a search to
find most of the available applications for MiNTOS, MiNT-NET and XaAES,
it would be nice if there was one main site that catered to the
development of Fenix, the Atari Operating System Replacement and have
the currently available system setup available until that time arrives.
Take a look at http://www.lysator.liu.se/amiga/aros/ The Amiga
Replacement Operating System website for any inspiration.

For those that are on the internet with their Atari's, it may be a good
idea to post up signs in your grocery stores, laundry mats and libraries
that suggest that Atarians (ST or Greater) looking to get on the
internet contact them to receive a free copy of the software setup (be
it WWW 1.4 or PPPkit) if they bring their own disks. There are hardly
any available magazines or BBS's for most people to realize that they
can get on the internet with their Ataris (at least this is the case
here in New York City). The kit should be enhanced to ask the user if
they would like to go online and register their access so that we can
get a better idea of how many Atarians are on the Net and which kind of
system they have (including if they are using Atari emulation), what
supplier they are using, whether or not it is SLIP or PPP. The
configuration file for services not currently listed could be uploaded
by e-mail and included in future releases of the WWW pack thus making it
easier for future Web Surfers. Just an idea.
