No, it's not CR/LF. I have fixed a lot of real warning in the GEM++
library while playing with it for five hours. I managed to compile it at
last, but not the example.cc. Either the example is simply bad written or
the GCC 2.7.2 is broken...

It simply can't be the reason, since C++ uses double slash for comments by
default.
