Virtual machine in the computer architecture field usually means a
machine that is capable of "emulating" several machines in hardware.
The 030 cannot do the context switching in hw and therefore it is
not IMHO a true virtual machine although as you noted it is very
close.
Anyway its only a matter of definitions. If one broaden the definition
to allow machines that can emulate several machines, the 030 definately
is a virtual machine.
