Hmm.. since even zeroing and reinstalling doesn't seem to help, your
problem is not what I'm gonna write here, still I'd like to point out that
kgmd runs fsck at a very bad moment; several processes (AFIK crond and
syslogd) are preventing fsck from correcting inode errors (result: It says
it's fixed and at the next fsck the errors are there again). AFIK, the
only way to make fsck fully functional is to kill any process you can and
then run it.

I myself removed fsck from the rc-file and put it in mint.cnf. This way I
miss out on the "warning: fsck failed, fix the prob yourself and
reboot"-warning, but at least it works ok for the errors it can correct
itself. (And no "couldn't sync or lock" warning to ignore) :)

Btw, your problem smells a bit like a bad harddisc..:)
