I believe this is not a 'usual method'. I would even say that STiNG should
be rewritten to not use such "tricks".

:-) and we want him to fix STiNG. MiNT is an operating system. It must
install its handlers before everything else. STiNG, as an application,
should logically be loaded after start of operating system. If it's
impossible then STiNG is wrong, not MiNT (IMHO).
