Ermm.. I thought the new filesstem was fully integrated into the 
kernel (where it belongs, IMHO, since it's a TOSFS replacement)?

Say that again?  That has nothing to do with the desktop.

Try "cp /c/newdesk.inf /a/newdesk.inf" and you get a case
conversion automatically, even though the original file
was uppercase.

It really is a questionable GEMDOS case conversion rule.
