I agree.
Tonight, I tried porting Secure Ping, which is basically the original
ping.c from UC Berkely, patched to prevent ping floods and to log any
suspicious attempt at preloading the sockets.
While MiNTnet *does* have an early version of this standard tool, I
was totaly unable to get it to compile:
1) Configure could not locate GCC nor CC (even after changing the paths
the script searches!)
2) After Kellis finally succeeded in getting Configure to work on HER kit,
as a placebo test, it still reported missing bindings.
Yet, PING is one of the most basic networking tool, so why can't I get
this newer version to successfully compile on MiNTos?
However, I'm at least happy that Yves and others are working towards
making the MiNTlib closer to common Un*x variants, for easier porting.
Unfortunately, as tonight's attempt showed, we're not quite there yet.
Still, if anyone ever succeeds at porting it, please inform the list
on how you did it. It might give us some clues as to what improvements
are needed on our networking libs.
PS: I *have* installed portlib, plus PL-48 libs, in case anyone tries
to reproduce my results.
