I think the second way it the only safe one - otherwise, MiNT would have to
know about special PMMU setup[1] for all kind of hardware you want to run it
on. Relying on an existing, working PMMU setup seems simpler to me.

[1] meaning at least transparent translations, no-cache / no-cache,
serialized areas for IO, setup of UD0/UD1 bits in the PMMU tables, and the
physical addresses of all RAM blocks.
