GGC Requirements

Could one of you experienced GGC users suggest what I need to start 
use GGC, preferably the latest, greatest version. I have no experience
with GGC, so I would like to install all the correct stuff the first
time. Then the biggest problem I am likely to have is with the rotten 
code I write and not hte compiler.
