As I recall, Sven wishes to utilize the basis of XaAES for Fenix, so since
there is a desire to maintain a sense of cohesion between the Fenix and the
MiNT projects, I think it would make sense to continue with the "official"
freeAES instead of relying on NAES.  This way, for legacy and modern GEM apps
we will have FreeAES, for Unix oriented programs without the need of GEM, we
would have W.  Therefore, in the present there is MiNT-GEM and MiNT-W as the
main modern system environments for TOS computers.  Later, if God willing, it
will gradually shift to Fenix (with GEM and W) as the baseline environments. 
My guess is that Fenix will be more capable for running X as well (from my
understanding of Sven's website).

Summary:  Both W and FreeAES should be supported vigorously!
