A clone system for PC's similar to what steve is talking about is 
concurrent dos. It has protected memory, creates virtual dos segments,
will run virtually any dos program. Allows vcons on main console as 
well as terminals. I believe they allow up to 8 processes per terminal
with switching. I have a friend who has one of these systems running 
for about 7 years now with no crashes or lock ups. Its limited in that
user processes have only 704 K maximum memory available.
I like the concept as my applications never need more than that amount
of memory and memory fragmention does not occur in this type of setup.
Only problem is it runs on PCs with antique memory management.
Just thought I'd share that with you.
