Weird problems again with freeMiNT beta2.7/8

To make things clear. Drive M, beeing my zipdrive is a MiNT VFAT one.
I'm using freeMiNT beta 2.8 with minix.xfs 0.70.5. I use HDdriver v.7.50 

What a weekend and it is only just started. First I managed to make a 100 
mb zip unreadable. Somehow the FAT was overwritting. I was switching forth 
and back between two zip's. All the sudden a zip displayed instead of 158 
entries only one dir with a Chinese name. I tried to repaired the disk 
with Edge but I ended up with a totaly corrupted disk. 100 mb of prgs I 
gathered from the web all over the years gone. :-(

BTW: If this happens again what can/must I do? I probably have followed 
the wrong way and so killed the whole zip.

Now my second prob is maybe not related to freeMiNT v2.8 but I have me 
doubts about it.

I just found out that it was impossible to copy more then 135 files to a 
zip. If I tried to copy more I got this message when Thing was trying to 
copy file 136 to the zip:

	Error while writing file M:\bla.bla
	(TOS 0)
	
Examing the zip with Edge I noticed that the max. root entries was set to 
256. 
Why can't I copy more then 135 files to that zip then? I don't get this.
I repartitionate that drive now with 512 root entries. With this setting I 
can copy 313 files to the zip. 

Now if I unable VFAT of the zip I can copy, using Thing's copy option, 
more then 135 files (with 256 root entries). I just did that with 203 
files. No prob.
I also noticed that when copying to the zip with VFAT enabled Thing's copy 
function halted from time to time.

It's getting weirder with the moment.

Using *kobold 3.5* to copy 203 files to the zip (max 256 root entries) 
give me this as result

	_VFAT enabled:_ Kobold starts copying but halted when it comes to 
	copy file 136. I get this warning:
	
	      M:\3061.txt kann nicht angelegt werden! 
	
	_VFAT unabled:_ Kobold complaints immediately
	
	      In Wurzelverzeichenis fehlen 68 freie Einträge
	      Bitte eine entsprechend geringere Anzahl von Dateien 
	      auswählen.
	      
What's going on here?
