Yes, it's now confirmed.  Anything beyond 1.15-beta8 (or was it 7?)
refuses to boot beyond the NEWFAT credits.  It just freezes there.

When 1.15.1-beta refused to work, I decided to try 1.15.0-release,
and it failed too.  Whatever has changed since 1.15.0-beta8, it's
broken.... ;-(
