Because, as you say yourself, you need to send VDI-calls over the
network, and no current VDI can do something like this.

You can ofcourse write a new AES that use a message-pipe (like XaAES
does), and a VDI to match, but this will require recompiled apps. But
this will also make it possible to modernize AES quite a bit, so it
could be pretty cool. E.g. caching of window-contents, better
dialog-handling, a new resource-format, non-modal menus and popups,
frameless windows, loadable window-managers...
