Re: [MiNT] HARD-DISK DYING
Martin.
On my megaste, the original 40meg was still there.
It was making a weird noise lately.
Data then got corrupted step by step. Worse and worse.
Then, one day didn't want to work at all.
I thought it died, and YES it really did.
Imagine, got this drive for like 7 years or so.
If you look at hdrive manufacturers, you'll they count in hours. and not
many really. HD DO die :)
I still wonder how this 40meg kept working for that many years.
ANyway, there's an end with harddrives.
Oh, btw heheh When it didn't work anymore at all, I took it out of the
megaste. and Out of curiosity, I opened the drive, Seeing the platters etc
Pretty cool in there :)
And heheh I saw that the magnet was MELTED ON the plater itself :)
It was detached from the arm.
The other platters an magnets were fine. But not this one, looked like
someone opened the drive and glued it. Very weird. anyway, Things DO
break.
And actually, that would explain your crash/bugs whatever. Error in
device. Not reliable at all.
Backup everything you can WHILE you can. and get another
drive.
Bye
