What do you mean by "nested" make loops?
Anyway, it takes a while until make has evaluated all dependencies and
starts its actual work. But that is only a question of minutes, not of
hours.
Furthermore PL-49 never had automatic dependency creation and you had to
do a full recompile for every lib you built. New MiNTLib versions will
keep old object files and only recompile if necessary.
