Once I had worked out what to do, it all worked for me.

At home, my login is always 'ligotage' - the same as my machine name, so
there was never a problem. But for werk, I have hostnames like 'mon?????'
- the asset tag + domainname - mon.bbc.co.uk, with a login id like 'wilma'
(don't ask!), and then a passwd.

PAP & CHAP work fine with 2.0.2.e/f or whatever. At least, in my
experience.
