Several times, but that wasn't it.  

As it turns out, for some silly reason, the new LD only seems to
work with GCC 2.91.66, which is a problem because many packages
are known not to compile correctly using any version of EGCS.

Is there anything to change (in specs, for instance?) to make
2.8.1 or 2.7.2.3 to work with this new LD?
