[MiNT] FATFS - strange things happening
Some introduction first:
I tried to depack some tarbals on a FATFS partition. Done, went for
tea.
Back. System very unresponsive, still not finoished. CTRL-ALT-DEL.
Tried on ext2, it went much faster (aprox 10 minutes).
Few things about tarball: lots of files (1000+), most of them very
small (biggest is 65KB, but most of them is less than KB), and all
have long filenames.
So I tried copying from ext2 to fat partition (I want to use them
with program that does not like case-sensitive filesystem). It is the
same: after some time, computer is unresponsive.
Today, I made a final test: recompiled kernel from fresh sources,
tried to copy it again cp * destdir -vr
Now, after w while (about 600-700 files done) it worked slower and
slower, more and more time for each file. I had something other to
do, so I left it for some time, and only looked on screen from time
to time. I was supprised that after some more time, copying was
normal speed.
Comparision: fat fs: about 40 mins, ext2: about 10mins.
You can download that tarball from
http://preferuje.luzik.pl/~adamk/gtk-stock_adam.tar.gz
and test it on your own.
