you could show us the DIR entries related to this file.

was it in GEMDOS mode or not? Was it under MiNT or not? Is Kobold safe
under MiNT?

this may still be the issue with shell expanding the file name in a
wrong way.

Try to find out the real filename by inspecting the DIR first.
