[MiNT] ttylog--unable to execute binary file

Hello all:

I am replying to myself. The cause of that problem was yet another new and interesting symptom of a hard drive about to die.

Along the way I learned a lesson. In resolv.conf you can put domain isp.com. I had found that it made no difference until I got to isp.com, which has, for reasons that made sense once, sets of DNS for some people, and a set of DNS that works for everybody.

I had that domain statement in, got pppd to dial properly, and tried to telnet shell.panix.com, and got "trying 216.127.3.8", although the proper dotted quad is 166.84.3.1. Tried "ftp shell.panix.com" and got connected to isp.com, and to their NcFTP server. Telnetting to the dotted quads worked.

The bottom line here is that the domain line is maybe better called the SEARCH_DOMAIN line, which seems to be what that is for a Macintosh program. It specifies a domain in which to search for all requests, and no DNS is consulted. So, it was assumed that anything I wanted could be found on isp.com, which is not the truth.

Mostly, this line does not matter. Sometimes it does. If you need a search domain, this is where it goes. If you do not need one, this line does not belong there.
