[MiNT] On the net again! Or : 15 steps to MiNT.

Hello,

So, it seems my previous disk decided to let me down. For an
april fools' day... it wasn't that fair. :-(
A couple of days after... I finally found time to restore my
data on to a new (but used) one. Thanks to MagiC! and Gemar,
I could save all non-MiNT data (over 4 GB, on 2 tapes), so I
was not that anxious.
Step 1 : format and partition another 20 GB drive, as the
upper limit for TOS partitions on a Falcon is 1 GB and not 4,
as I wrote earlier. :-/ Q:\ as LNX. 2 GB.
Step 2 : understand why the systems crashes at boot in CT60
mode, under TOS. I finally supposed that it could be caused
by the 1.04 release of the CT60 system that expects to find
a CTPCI and can't detect it, so it crashes.
Step 3 : boot in 030 mode and revert CT60 to 1.03c. When
restarting in 060 mode, no more crashes. So my thoughts were
correct : don't try to boot to TOS in 060 mode with 1.04 and
no CTPCI (with graphics card attached ?). :-/
Step 4 : restore the data from the tapes. Not that easy, when
GEMAR decides to crash as it is to display the content... :-(
It took me 2 days to find that it was because of the TAR
import plugin (problem when writing the index at the end of
the backup ?). :-(
Step 5 : set correct parameters in newly intalled HD-Driver
so the streamer is correctly recognized... pffff!
Step 6 : restore vital system data so hte system can be
restarted. This is : all data on C:\ but MiNT and EasyMiNT
stuff. This also includes gemsys data for both MagiC! and
NVDI, which partially are on E:\.
Step 7 : restart the system and restore sybolic links that
are only handled by MagiC! and MiNT. :-/
Step 8 : launch EasyMiNT, and see it complain it can't find
a LNX partition, it idiot! And Q:\! you can't see Q:\? :-(
Step 9 : reboot under MagiC!, so Q:\ is detected and the
installation succeeds. But don't forget to press escape 2
times when the auto folder is copied, and 3 times when it is
sorted. It's better not to wonder what's happening for hours
while watching a white screen... ;-)
Step 10 : at reboot, don't forget to deactivate MagiC! and
activate MiNT, and let the process go on. Answer the few
questions it asks, but don't worry : everything can be modi-
fied later, by hand. :-)
Step 11 : replace 1.16 with 1.17, and don't forget to modify
aespath or it won't work!
Step 12 : some stuff within /etc/ and /etc/sysconfig have to
be tuned up, as well as in mint.cnf and xaaes.cnf, should
this one be the chosed one. 8-)
Step 13 : don't forget to copy the correct NIC driver. This
may help to get connected to internet. And, oh! don't forget
to check a second time that net.services really contains the
string inetd. :-/
Step 14 : one last action as to set execute flags on tw-call
and/or toswin2. Not that essential, but for sure practical. :-)
Step 15 : restore all other data from tape and enjoy! ;-)
