I tried to get the unzip verbose option to work from Arcview but it
doesn't seem to.

There is one known bug in Arcview which I think the author is aware
of, the console output does't go to the window correctly, so if it
prompts to overwrite files then that output just doesn't appear.
I doubt this is related to the ramdisc bug but could make seeing the
commandline output difficult.

I has a look at 2in1 but it isn't so flexible in allowing commandline
options.
