Sure you did :)

But it was an error in mintlib's getcookie() function, and nothing to
do with old software unable to relocate the cookie jar.

Anyway Peter, just run the JARXXX.PRG early in the boot up sequence
like already suggested or move your AUTO folder programs around a bit.
This error is not caused by the kernel, but by bad software and
unlucky boot order.
