You are right! I took a closer look at zView, and while it refuses to
start if EdDI isn't present, it never use this cookie for anything.

I'm not able to compile it ATM (need to install freetype and xpdf and
them compile them for the Coldfire), but I patched the binary and got
one step closer. Now it refuses to start because it's looking for an
FPU.
