And my guess is that it would make more sense to turn make it neither a
compile time configurable nor a runtime configurable, but to make it a
dynamically detected optional input option.

PS This is probably the only mailing list on earth that tries to post
replies to postings on the mailing list to the sender of the posting
instead of the mailing list.  Can somebody please fix this stupid reply
