I hit that bug when compiling tar 1.26:

I was not aware of the problem. Alan reported it also crashes with GCC4.5.2. It has been fixed in CVS a few weeks ago. Unfortunately I didn'tnotice that, so I did not include that patch in my 4.6.1 build.

Since I'm not in the mood of rebuilding everything now, I will wait nextmonth to release binutils 2.21.1a and GCC 4.6.2, which will include the fix.
