Thanks for the tip, I struggled to understand the automake stuff and I didn't understood that the final user verbosity variable was simply V.
I guess that any user can also set his favorite verbosity level by putting the following into his ~/.bash_profile:
export V=1 then simply type "make" as usual... -- Vincent Rivière
