Ok, I sorted my problem now.

Not sure what went wrong with the system, so I deleted entire 1-18-cur folder & Mint.prg in Auto, download trunk again and re-install.
This time round, it seem to work out great. I can get the image to my background using exactly same procedure as previously.

Well, nothing like starting a fresh, I guess.

BTW, I get the same as what you guys posted for  the mint.grd... but it's too neony for me. 
I stick to my photo background.
