I am surprised that no one mentioned an almost identical issue from
around Jan 2010..

The 5th level had problems, but not with "cp" (ie commandline), and
only on fat/gemdos partitions (this was verified using ARAnyM), some
work was done on it to fix the problem.

It may be that the fix introduced new issues, and would/might explain
why it can not be reproduced with aranym atm..
