The gradients are disabled by default. I don't see what the problem is. I
don't use them and I find that XaAES looks quite OK. And yes, I am a graphics
designer by trade. Not that it means anything, but hey.
Maybe it means that you could help Helmut improve the quality of the graphics in XaAES? ;) (hehe ok, its easy to volunteer other people, sorry about that). But ok valid point, if they are disabled by default, they shouldn't bother anyone.
