I know that something similar was discussed around Feb/March last year
(2011) - I think the keywords were pipe and procfs

I do get a thread from 2009 regarding "message event and appl_read" -
but at the time Helmut had it on low priority

[MiNT] XaAES shortcut list & "reload XaAES"

I am not sure that any of them actually cover exactly what ur looking
for tho (restart XaAES) but they both cover reloading config ..
