You can't avoid this without massive changes to the general functionality.  
There is always the risk that the configured focus-app hangs, needs  
forever, crashes or whatever. So the other apps should always work as  
before, or there would be no menubar or no focus, or other surprises.

I guess I can't do much better ...

I'll test it for a while and see if it can be improved.
