Hi,

As it is my first post in this mailing list, let me introduce myself.
I am Philippe, a 49 years old French Atarian living in Brazil.
I have been using an Atari since 1987 when I bought my first 520STF, that
later on I sold to buy a Mega ST4 with SM124 and hard drive. My main usage
was for Home Studio (Pro 24 and later Cubase) and office work (Le
Redacteur, Kspread, Calamus ...), though I did also some programming in GFA
basic. I was not really into games.
I spent fantastic years using this incredible machine until 1995 when I
bought a PC, fully setup for my music needs with Cubase Audio.
But, even though I knew Windows architecture by heart, this shitty box was
not working properly and both midi and audio were not as reliable as with
my mighty old ST. So in 1996, I bought an used Falcon, exchanged Cubase
Audio PC for Cubase Audio Falcon, expand it with memory, a CT2, a CDRom
writer, audio interface and put everything in a home made 19" rack :
everything was fine ...

Until 2001 I used this setup, and had a lot of fun with my Falcon, but I
finally sold it and switched to Mac. May be my biggest mistake, knowing
what it worth today. Anyway, for 10 years the apple satisfied my needs, and
even if I was looking at Atari news and testing emulators in development
from time to time, I really lost contact with the Atari world...

Until 2011, curious of knowing what was going on with the Atari world, I
was quite surprised to see that it was still alive, and that many emulators
had reached maturity. So I decided to dive into Aranym, and after a hard
learning curve, finally got a system working and worth sharing : that was
EasyAraMint.
I continued working on this setup and released this year BeeKey, as self
booting USB key running Aranym on any machine with all the bells and
whistle of a modern system, and BeePi the same setup for Raspberry Pi. My
goal : make a distribution as easy as possible for somebody who have left
Atari for a long time to reuse this beloved machine, and why not build his
own clone with an easy system to boot on.

Now, what brings me to this mailing list will be the subject of the next
post.

Cheers,

Philippe
