IMHO it would be much more efficient to add Linux block device interface in
FreeMiNT and use standard mkfatfs.

So the situation is:
- 680x0 systems can use old kernel32.slb
- ColdFire systems will never have kernel32.slb, as sources are not available
Furthermore:
- 680x0 systems can use old mkfatfs
- ColdFire systems will never be able to run mkfatfs, as it needs
kernel32.slb which is not available on ColdFire.
And finally:
- Adding Gemma to cross-tools allows to rebuild mkfatfs
- Rebuilding mkfatfs for 680x0 is useless as it is already available
- (Building then) running ColdFire mkfatfs is impossible as kernel32.slb is
unavailable for ColdFire
Conclusion:
Adding Gemma to cross-tools useless.
QED
PS: Of course if the sources of kernel32.slb suddenly resurface, the
situation will be completely different.
