Actually it's mintlib's fault. I had some time to investigate, bash 2.05
(2001) is linked against mintlib which doesn't contain this fix:
https://github.com/freemint/mintlib/commit/5f49c63664ff658c64976d066589ad884708ab44
(2004). So to make this work one needs to recompile bash 2.05 against
latest mintlib or use Vincent's bash 4.3.
