Yes, that's rather common for all  packages that use the gnulib macros 
packages. In a lot of places, when cross compiling it would give the correct 
answer if it just would assume that the target system is glibc compatible. 
Unfortunately mintlib is not detected as such.

Only solution so far: write down a (rather large) config.cache file. Drawback: 
whenever mintlib changes, that file will again make wrong assumptions if you 
don't keep it up-to-date. Maybe such a thing should be added to mintlib 
itself.
