[Freemint-list] File copy speeds

I have been copying some of my own diving videos and noticed some
surprising speed differences.

Copying from lubuntu to Milan over ethernet:

sftp  : ~200 kbyte/s
samba :  ~26 kb/s

Then copying files on the Milan from one physical drive to another:

Thing : ~350 kb/s
cp    : ~1   Mb/s
rsync : ~170 kb/s

I find it odd that it can ftp data from another machine faster than
it can rsync solely on the Milan and a lot faster than samba.

Also, why would cp be so much faster than the Thing copy and rsync ?
