MiNT.cnf's alias command

Is there any way for a program to access MiNT's internal "alias"
command, used in MiNT.CNF?

I'm still trying to get Ultima IV to run off my hard drive :-), and I've
tried all the easy things... I just tried putting all the unique files
into one directory, "alias"ing that to A:, and then when Ultima asked
for the 2nd disk, I copied the duplicate files from B: onto the aliased
A:... it didn't work.

Switching to low res screwed up the vconsole too... ;-)
