I've tried this, and it seems to do what you want:
---bash---
case $tty in
	console)
 		ttyvfont iso-atari-16.fnt && echo ISO-8859-1 Font loaded.
		;;
	ttyv?)
 		ttyvfont iso-atari-16.fnt && echo ISO-8859-1 Font loaded.
		;;
esac
---bash---

						-sbigham
