Re: [MiNT] Daily mintv4e.prg

Hello, Heinz.
Thanks for your interest in the Firebee and MiNT.

I just received my FireBee and immediately tried to use today's trunk
build. Being a bit rusty on a simple MinT setup, I'm not sure what I'll
have to do to quickly make it boot on my FireBee. I just extracted the
contents of the trunk archive, copied it to C: on my CF card deleted all
but the mintv4e.prg, edited mint.cnf to set gem to xaaes. and started it
up.

I'm not a FreeMiNT specialist, but that looks good. Other MiNT people may give you further tricks. There is nothing special to FireTOS/FireBee.

I also always use GEM=ROM and manually start XaAES by double-clicking on xaloader.prg, to avoid startup trouble with video modes.

It starts booting but ends up in a loop telling:

pid 0 (MiNT) : doing timeout code for pid 2
pid 2 (update): Syncing filesystems ...
pid 2 (update): Syncing done

Then it should start the TOS desktop.
Unless you have filesystem corruption, which seems to be the case by reading your later posts.

Also, note that not all components in the daily trunk archive are optimized for ColdFire. Especially, ext2.xfs is 68000 and for some obscure reason (probably an ugly bug somewhere) it does not work on FireTOS (ext2 partitions not accessible). However, the one manually compiled for ColdFire works fine.

Who could kindly jump start me on a quick and simple Mint setup for the
FireBee?

I'm going to send you mine.
