That can only be done by an external app.

Imagine e.g. zView called with certain parameters to do non-interactively what it does
when loading+displaying fullscreen and writing to the background-file instead of the screen.

Then config your desktop to call this for image-files, and you're done.

Good would be resizing+multiplying in case the image does not fit.
