	xcalc is probably xlib based, and probably honours a standard 
resource format; I've not mucked with it in 10 years or more either, but 
real X11 from back in the day you could specify a .rc-of-some-sort that 
would override app defaults; you could specify as accurately as you like.. 
from all apps down to specific forms within specific apps (assuming they 
followed the at-then guidelines .. nowadays, KDE and QT and gnomelib and 
such use different methods.)

	So you could do it with a config file approach, without hacking 
the code. I just don't recall details offhand, but try googling around 
'xlib configuration' or something.
