I don't know what method thing! uses for these popups, but the reason why  
the AES is blocked is that thing! locks the mouse with  
wind_update(BEG_MCTRL). As a test-app I used lines.app from atari, which  
stops as long as the popup is open. When I ignore the mouse-lock lines.app  
continues, but draws above the popup from thing!. Needs to be inspected if  
there is a way to solve this. Unfortunately lines.app does not work in  
MyAES: After resizing the window the background is corrupted, only  
lines.app is visible.

Anyway I suggest to stop further speculations for now :)
