I have no idea what could be causing this.

But to be honest, I don't see much reason to connect a MIDI keyboard to a
FreeMiNT powered Falcon. It's many years ago that I owned a Falcon030/CT2b
running FreeMiNT. The FreeMiNT kernel and especially also XaAES, have
improved a lot since then. But the MIDI software that was part of the
success of ATARI computers still runs best in a single TOS environment.
