Hmm. Basically I don't need to do anything, just use a kernel before
commit 638fe02150adcc559b972874b51a89139e9f3c0f, for instance this one:

So you boot up the kernel and already see the alert (regardless of file
system). Easiest to verify is of course ext2, after the unchecked fs
message -> fsck.ext2 -> cd <ext2 drive>/some_folder -> alert again.

It works equally on FAT drives with the exception you can't clean it. When
running dosfsck, you shouldn't get "filesystem is clean" message.
